League of Legends (LoL) Question: Maining just 1-2 champions?

    Maining just 1-2 champions?

Call me dumb but I just noticed that most high elo players tend to main 1-2 champions.
Why is this good, does it limit your knowledge of the game (I.e knowing how to play 2-3 champs at diamond level while your other champions are barely gold level) and Is kassadin an okay champ to main (when taking in to account that this is for the sole purpose of climbing the solo Q ladder)?

    Why is this good,
    - It helps you improve a LOT because when you've played a champ in and out enough you don't really need to focus on your own controls over the champ - it becomes subconscious, thus letting you become aware of other hidden mechanics / how to play this game better type of stuff.
    - You win more - both because you improve and because you're consistent with that champ.

does it limit your knowledge of the game?
    - hardly. rather the opposite. I explained why above. The only downside to it is that you're worse on other champs.

and Is kassadin an okay champ to main (when taking in to account that this is for the sole purpose of climbing the solo Q ladder)?
    - I'm not sure about whatever server you play on but in CN and KR he's a top ban, so I don't recommend you to take Kassa as a primary main. Ofc if your server doesn't ban him as much then feel free. Kass is a strong solo queue pick.

This was gonna be my answer :P. It lets you focus on actual game mechanics (which honestly is just as important as knowing how to play a champion) instead of having to worry about playing your champion correctly.

I'll look for someone else then xD Kass is banned around 70% of the time here and I don't really enjoy playing him to the point where I wanna only main him :<

because people who 'main' 1 or 2 champions (eg Unwardil J4, Hui Vayne, etc) can usually win 90% of their games on that champion, even if they have a bad matchup/team etc, especially if those champions are OP - this is also why you see the really high elo and well known solo queuers like WildTurtle & Pobelter main 1-2 champions that are OP/they know really well and then switch when those champions are nerfed.

So basically as long as people get really good with a champ and play them consistently they tend to succeed o3o
Obviously playing whats strong at the moment is your best bet but still xD thanks for the answer

In higher ELO the chances of getting the role you want are generally higher, I would say. Overall it is good because you will know those champions really well and all their matchups. As long as you don't have a bad day, you should be able to win most games on that champ.

Overall, it does not really limit your knowledge, but it does limit your flexibility (if you have a bad matchup or your mains get taken away).

And yes, kassadin is one of the strongest soloqueue champs right now (I ban him all the time)

Thanks. That actually makes quite a lot of sense, now I just need to figure out who to main cause I've pretty much tried everyone except lucian and I've gotten bored of em all at one point or another :<

Speaking from personal experience: League is extremely practice-dependent. I'm a mid main with a bias for assassins and I play many champions regularly, Zed/ Twisted Fate/ Fizz/ Diana/ Riven/ LeBlanc/ Kayle etc. just to name some of my recent favorites. However, because of diverse gameplay, I have not truly mastered any one of these champions, because disuse makes you "rust" at a champion and you inevitably get worse with them if you don't play the champion regularly. Maintaining skill at one or two champions is manageable. Trying to keep your champion pool large and remain equally skilled on all of them is impractical.

Let's I play a few games on Zed then switch to Twisted Fate the next game. I'll find myself unable to pre-load cards, reliably lock stun during Gate, or properly abusing Stacked Deck. After some games with TF and I get those mechanics down again, I will start being horrible at shadow swapping with Death Mark and Living Shadow, and end up blinking back into tower range like a noob when trying to walk out. Even though I know all of these things by heart in theory, your muscle memory does not work like that. It is unrealistic to expect consistent mastery of a substantial number of champions, so if your main goal is elo climb, focus on one or two champions.
