I understand the desire for CDR on Annie but you have absolutely no mana regen or mana at all. Sure you can burst down an opponent once or twice but in extended fights or in sieges/siege defenses you're gonna go OOM really fast. I would grab a morrelo's in your core build for sure. You mention it in your situational section but it NEEDS to be a core item if you're going for a CDR build because you desperately need that mana regen since youre not going for an ROA or anything.

Hi! A fellow Annie player here, I really enjoyed your guide's diversity such as explaining what to pick in what situation. That's something a lot of guides lack. The builds are pretty neat.

criticism

EDIT: Ignore my comment in the criticism about the gameplay, didn't see your above comment explaining why. I agree for the most part, though matchups might be a nice addition.
+1 :D

I appreciate the input. I've changed the last section, "Sample Build", to be "Sample Build Order", and I've changed the description to explain when (and why) each item should be bought.

I did some math, and I see that you're right - for the most part. I'm going to incorporate some of that math into the guide. Thanks for the tip.

Firstly, the runes. Sure, they're great and all if you can get to late game while farming equally with your lane opponent, but defensive runes are more for surviving early game than anything. If you get no MR or Armor runes, I guarantee you a good Leblanc or Cassiopeia will eat you early game.

Thanks for pointing this out. I actually already included a section in the runes for when to use something other than scaling AP, but I see I didn't include the bit about defensive runes. I'll add it now.

Dorryza wrote:

There's an entire subsection of the guide dedicated to what to build if the enemy has more than 30 MR. I'll just provide the quote.

If They Build MR

First, let me clarify. You must ALWAYS check to see what your opponents are building. Your items will be based almost ENTIRELY on whether or not your opponents build magic resistance. So don't forget to check.

Remember that you have NO innate magic penetration in your runes and masteries. So when your enemies build magic resistance, you need to itemize to counter that. If you're following the guide, you should already have 30 magic penetration from Sorcerer's Shoes and Haunting Guise / Liandry's Torment. Thankfully, the other two magic penetration / MR reduction items work well on Annie, too.

Void Staff is always a great buy, especially when the enemy team has a lot of tanky people. The more magic resistance they buy, the more effective (and gold-efficient) this item will become.

Abyssal Scepter is the most situational item of the four magic penetration / MR reduction items. The item is really only worth the purchase if one or more of the following criteria are met:
- the enemy team has a LOT of magic resistance
- the enemy team has a lot of magic damage and is focusing you
- your team has a lot of magic damage but no one on your team is going to purchase the item

I find myself buying Abyssal Scepter even when I'm the only one on my team who deals magic damage, just because more often than not, my opponents have a lot of magic resistance.

I will consider reworking the visibility of this section.

Dorryza wrote:
Items- no mention of RoA? That's an item a ton of Annies I know consider core on her.

I was originally reworking this to be an insta-kill Annie guide, but I did modify it to include tankier items. Not sure how I missed Rod of Ages. Thanks for bringing it up.

Dorryza wrote:
Also, your entire build seems to ignore two facets of Annie that I consider extremely strong- her q cooldown is practically zero, and her e gives her great innate tankiness. If you build a little tanky and survive more than 0.28 seconds, Annie can actually dish out a lot of additional damage through basic spells+tibbers AoE.

Annie's Q cooldown is practically zero if she kills something with it. Otherwise, it's a full 4 seconds, not factoring in cooldown reduction. Damage over time is great, but not when you have to wait 3-4 seconds every time your single-target nuke isn't up.

Believe me, I am well aware of the power that CDR Annie can possess, considering that's what this guide was originally about. But I have found more success with one-combo, high-burst Annie than I ever did with CDR Annie. That's not to say CDR Annie isn't viable; just that I don't feel that particular strategy is as effective as the one I have detailed.

Dorryza wrote:
I can't help but think that if you want to play a "gg lulz everyone dies so fast" champ, you should be playing Leblanc- if you want to play a "gg lulz everyone in this circle dies so fast" champ, you should be playing someone more like Orianna or Brand. Annie has a bit more sustained damage than them.

In my experience, Annie only really has "sustained damage" when the enemy team is bad, or doesn't know how to focus. Good enemy ADCs will see your health and your armor, and they'll raise you a Last Whisper. Good mages will see your high max health, and raise you Liandry's Torment and Deathfire Grasp.

This build is predicated on the idea that you, as Annie, are public enemy number one, as you should be if you're playing and building effectively against your enemies. They're going to want to insta-kill you, and building tanky might only mean making them blow one more cooldown before they succeed.

So this build details "making plays" Annie. There's a core philosophical difference between being being tanky enough to survive a few hits in a fight and ending the fight before the enemy can damage you. And as I mentioned in the guide,

"Let's face it: you're playing Annie. No amount of runes, masteries, or itemization is going to make you not-squishy without sacrificing your immense damage output. The simple truth is that your job is NOT to survive fights; your job is to win fights for your team.

That means it's perfectly OK for you to die. As long as you stunned a bunch of people, took one or two of them down with you, and damaged as many others as you could, then you did your job. Kill the carries, then you can rest easy knowing your team is going to push a tower or two off of that victory."

Lastly, there is a huge difference between correcting some spelling errors/updating items to match a new patch and straight-up missing sections of the guide. No, you can't get away with just linking to LoLWiki- actually type the gameplay out, as that's what the person looking at your guide is there for. If they wanted to go to LoLWiki, they would have gone to LoLWiki. They're here instead. So just help them instead of making excuses.

Your assertion isn't necessarily true. I, for one, have never come to Mobafire to understand how to play a champion. So much has always been clear enough - at least, to me - through the descriptions of that champion's abilities, all of which are visible in-game. I come to mobafire for rune, mastery, and item builds - nothing more.

But I understand that sometimes, people want tips just to make sure they're "doing it right". That's why I included the lolwiki link. There is nothing I would say that could be considered a "general Annie tip" that lolwiki didn't already cover.

Yes, I could type out all the tips as if I'd thought of them all myself, but I didn't. They're not MY tips. They're tips that have been around since Annie was first introduced to the game. I'm not going to take them, reword them slightly, and claim credit for them. I'm going to provide a handy link for people to go check out a great LoL resource which happens to work with this build for people who are completely new to Annie.

As for play-style tips that are exclusive to this specific build (being extra squishy, having no sustain in fights, relying on one-combo bursts) I have a few points scattered throughout the guide as they become relevant. I'll consider reworking their visibility, but I must admit I'm content with where they sit now. Nothing is too redundant and there's a decent flow to each section that might be lost otherwise.

Thanks for the feedback!

EDIT: I changed the "foreward" blurb to basically a "what does this build do?" section. This should clear up any confusion on what the build aims to accomplish.

Red subs were just theme. If I get more complaints, I'll change them.

I used to have a link to the league of legends wiki "strategy" page for Annie. I can link it again for "how to play" stuff. :)

Updates is the first chapter so that people who check the guide regularly can know (without scrolling forever) if I've changed anything since the last time they looked. I've found this to be a standard trend in other pages, not just on mobafire but all over the web. It makes sense to me, so I'd prefer to keep it, but again, if I get enough complaints, I'll change it.

Thanks for the feedback!

EDIT!!!: I put all the older updates in a spoiler tab so that people who don't want to see them can scroll right past them, but people who want to see them don't have to scroll to the end of the guide. :D
