An initiative for a new protocol that will provide an entirely secure email service.
This comes after Lavabit was forced to shut down when they didn't wanna comply with the US goverment's demands for access to their users' emails.
There's pretty much not a single email service that isn't spied upon these days, so this is a welcome addition in my opinion.
This is all being released as free, open source code too, which is a big plus.
