I'm not really sure how to describe. It was like something that was sickly sweet, only not actually sweet. It certainly fit the "fire in your belly" description, it was a very warm feeling drink.. Perhaps a taste I could acquire, but not one I found compelling at the time. Strong taste is probably good though, or at least, I like wine and cider with very strong flavour. Definitely not fruity, I like wine to be dry and bitter and only ever go for apple cider, I dislike berry ones. Might try pear, though.
I think you drank some kind of fruity whiskey then. There are some that are kind of sweet-ish.
I don't think there are many bitter whiskeys though, but I may just have missed them, heh.
I'm not much for bitter things myself, but who knows, you might get enjoyment out of any of the ones I recommended on the last page despite them not being bitter :P
Do give them a try if you ever get the chance.
Seems like an awesome and joyful country you have there! Here, it's the law, most of the elder citizen, and the extremists that find drinking as "taboo". Hell, the law implicitly tries to enforce the religion. That's why people end up a night in jail for just having a Heineken by the beach at night with friends :/

Except moonshine, **** is too strong to enjoy but would only drink it if I want to get drunk in less than 20 minutes.
For wine you can't go wrong with some sangria, I like the one at Hooters cause they give you a big ****ing mug.
For hard liquor, I like anything with vodka, rum, tequila, etc. But I prefer orange/cranberry juice and vodka.
Draft Beer: Blue Moon with orange slice ofc.
Just regular beer in bottle/can: Budweiser, Bud Light Platinum, Heineken
