Is having a complete set of runes really a requirement when going into rank? I mean having a full set of runes for your main?

yes, you should have at least a good set for your main and a good set for your off main...honestly you should have a full set for more than that..i have been forced to go to my third choice of role before.

By the way I'd recommend not starting ranked until you're at least 30 wins over losses in normals, or preferably 50. Usually that would mean your Elo in normal games is decent, meaning you must be a decent player to be able to play at that Elo.

So when you start playing ranked, placements and the first few games should be a piece of cake, as you're used to playing at a higher level than the Elo you start ranked at.

^ this. you can check the elo of people you play in normals also. if you are playing against mostly bronze and winning a lot than you will probably start playing people in silver and so forth...this pretty much indicates where you will likely be placed. remember though that normals aren't exactly the same as ranked...very similar but different. people tend to try harder in ranked games.

As a gold player, my advice on csing would be simply practice some more. Honestly it shouldn't be too hard for you to pick up, you've hopefully been doing it prior to reaching level 30. If you can't kill every minion, don't fret, just keep accuracy in the back of your mind.
On the competitive scene, one of the best tips I could give you would have to be map awareness. With the changes to warding, keeping your lane well protected should be slightly easier. I would say to just go for it. It's not that much different than the games you have been playing.

If you are really nervous though, consider duo queue or even a full ranked team. Learning is easier with friends.

You can practice csing by making a custom games and just practice hitting the minions at the right times. Obviously, you will need to factor in enemies trying to poke you when you actually play against humans, but its a nice way to learn to control your cs and how to plan out when you are going to hit what creep at what time and etc.

Positioning in teamfights the easiest way to learn how to position better is to play multiple games while recording yourself and then looking at any mistakes and positioning and noting how to position better the next time. If you don't want to record yourself, then after every teamfight just think to yourself if anything was wrong with anything you did.

Objectives are pretty simple, just remember the timers for everything important. buffs are 5 minutes, dragon 6 minutes, baron 7 minutes. after the clock hits 20 you always need to keep an eye on baron and its possible the other team will do a 7 minute dragon, maybe earlier if they have someone like nunu or nasus. If you watch some LCS match recordings, this can help you understand the objective game much better.

Itemization is really simple. Build accordingly to the other team, of course, but also keep in mind if your team needs something specific from you. If you are ahead, damage items are probably the way to go and try to snowball. If you are behind, tanky items are generally cheaper than damage items.

If you want any mechanics help or an analysis of any issues or areas you can improve on, pm me and id be willing to teach you some stuff 1 on 1 ( I used to be diamond before i retired) and i'm also willing to watch you play if you record any of your games to see if theres anything I can point out for you to improve on.
