Morellos isn't a great item for Syndra in general. Her job is to instanuke people, and healing reduction from Morellos is a wasted stat. Athenes give you all the mana regen you need- another wasted stat. All morello's does is give you a measly 5% cdr because cap is at 40% an insignificant AP. DFG is far superior

You NEED Athene's at least for its CDR, MR, but mostly its unlimited Mana Regen (much better than Mort). And DFG isn't 100% necessary early on but it is essential to get at least SOMETIME in the build. My guide shows this and an in depth analysis of Syndra and her connectivity with her items and Kit. Bad reasoning.

If you get blue + DFG + athenes, you already hit the 40% cdr cap, you don't even need blue to get 35%. The mana regen from athene's or the optional tear should be enough to sustain you.
