Hey everyone, I currently am on a 17" HP Laptop that is about to years old no. Lately It has been getting really slow, whether I'm trying to watch a youtube video in 360p or search for a website. I use google chrome for all my internet needs and I've never had until lately, pop up adds that launch every time i start chrome and when I click on a website.

In relation, my LoL now lags a bit every now and then, mainly right in the beginning of a game where I'll drop to 3 fps for a couple of minutes. Now I really don't want to have to factory restore because waiting forever for my games to re-install is no fun and neither is loosing a lot of college work, but I do have a terabyte hardrive to transfer important things to if i really really need too.

So my question for everyone is, is there any FREE program(s) available that is worthy of being downloaded to help clean my pc and/or anything I do/get to help it run even better. I prefer to spend no money so any methods that do not include using cash would be great. However, if you know a program/tool that really really is worth the money, don't be afraid to put that down as well.

Now before you all start barking at me, I have run through control panel and deleted ominous programs that were obviously causing a problem. I do also use razor game booster to help with my games. Lastly, I'm not to sure how settings work for google chrome so if anyone knows a few tricks to help out that would be great!

And as a bonus round for you all, if you know anyway to get my HP Laptop to run at least 720p for videos, I would love you forever. Over and out.

malwarebytes to get rid of pop ups that comes from adware
microsoft security essentials for any viruses
get adblock plus for chrome for the regular ads you expect
try gamebooster, it closes all programs not related to your game and by extension helps speed up your games

Oh so many questions, so little time.

What OS you running?
What's your hardware like? Just saying its 1 year old isn't enough, same as saying it's 17".
Which processes are running? Get HiJackThis, let it run and post log file.
Or rather, get HiJackThis, let it run, then google each and every process it says is running. Learn which are safe and which not.

No idea what the equivalents are in Chrome, but get AdBlock and NoScript. One blocks ads, the other prevents (java)scripts from running. For each addon you need to whitelist the sites you trust. These addons also give you insight into what you are actually loading when visiting sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, other popular sites. If you really wanna know how sites interact and which sites puts cookies on your PC, try out Collusion.

Laptop means WiFi, whats your reception like? Got a good signal or is it wonky?

So many things could be wrong, so little information given.....

MBAM is a nice program to get, as stated above.
For some quick and easy computer speedups, i like to use CCleaner and advanced systemcare 4. Both are free, and the fixes the programs do certainly go a long way - should you choose to clean up your registry & defrag your disk

If that doesn't work, and you wholeheartedly think it's your processor, you can always download sandy bridge, and overclock your processor. Don't do anything stupid though. Overclocking your processor too much can make your laptop/desktop fry.

Glad to help,
-U
