The chemical imbalance in my brain doesn't let me just "not be depressed" some days, but I'll be sure to try asking it nicely this time. :P

That's rather ignornant to say. A lot of people suffer from mild to chronic cases of depression, and they just "can't not feel depressed". It's like a happy person telling a sad person to stop being sad. Yeah, they're down in the duldrums but they have a reason to be sad. :P

considering how many people seem to think dealing with clinical depression is as easy as "just stop feeling that way"....it seems more likely that it's just society's general habit of pretending it isn't a real problem.
