I'll just start using SteamOS. If they do cloud based OS, it will quite likely save every action/picture/video/internet site etc. you do/watch/are on. Or who knows, maybe they won't do that.
So late 2014? I can't imagine it being earlier than that. I'm sure it'll be out in 2015 though.
And that cloud-based talk is likely just their concept. It'll likely either fall through and be changed or they will simply be crushed under the monolith that is Google. Google already offers an OS that does exactly that: ChromeOS. Their Chromebooks held 4 of the 5 top-selling laptop spots on Amazon a month back or so. I doubt Microsoft will be able to compete.
On a side-note: anybody here tried the SteamOS beta? (it's available for download right now)

My brother has it, he is a real Linux expert. It's so heavy (according to him) and when I checked the consoles, I saw these specs:
The 300 prototype units will ship with the following components:
GPU: some units with Nvidia Titan, some GTX780, some GTX760, and some GTX660
CPU: some boxes with Intel i7-4770, some i5-4570, and some i3
RAM: 16GB DDR3-1600 (CPU), 3GB GDDR5 (GPU)
Storage: 1TB/8GB Hybrid SSHD
Power supply: Internal 450w 80Plus Gold
Dimensions: approx. 12 x 12.4 x 2.9 in high
And yeah, it costs more than Xbox One atm

Heavy? As in slow?

It's somewhat slow still, but they are going to fix it
EDIT: I heard it's like prototype 300x atm. which they are working on. The console should be out summer 2014 with SteamOS according to Finnish PC - Pelaajat magazine.
EDIT: holy **** some sites don't check their facts. one site said it needs 500 gb internal space wat te fack they obviously know nothing about things. Thank god I checked my copy pasterino

namely, windows 9 is supposedly scheduled for a release in 2014. yep, yearly releases for a 300 dollarish os. other than that aero is coming back for windows 9.
but the big kicker with his info leak is the rumors about windows 10, which will be a 'cloud based' os. yes, pretty much EVERYTHING your computer does will be on microsofts servers. documents, pictures, games, music, movies, EVERYTHING. which also includes that you HAVE to be connected to the internet 24/7 (and have a great internet too) in order to do ****ing anything with a computer like this.
