Without proper runes you lose more because other people have runes and therefore have early/mid/late game advantage over you. With the early game advantage they can get more advantage and win the game.

Runes really gives mega advantage at first levels and minor advantages later in the game. Its way easier to play with them, becouse without runes u just give ur opponent free advantage.
U should get at least 2 basic pages for ap and ad champs.
I personally use armor yellows, Mr per lvl blues, move speed quints (since i mostly play support or jungle) and mpen reds on one page and ad on another. These two pages improves overall performance of most champions I play.
