Basically, in your mind, have your roles ranked in your head. Mine is;

top>mid>jungle>adc>support

So, when in champ select (draft), if I'm 1st or second pick, I usually say:
"top/mid" anyone want an adc, support, or jungler?"

That way, I can swap the lucian they want and I can counterpick them from 1st or second pick.

When i'm like 3rd/4th pick, I say:
"pref top/mid/jung"

This isn't demanding anything. This is saying my preference. If any of those roles are available when it's my turn, cool I'll grab it. If not, w/e

If i'm last pick, I say:
"fill, I'm only so-so at support"

Which is true. My support is my weakest role and I let them know that. I'm saying i'm willing to do anything, but if you make me support, don't expect me to do spectacularly. Basically, in all positions, even 1st and second, you have to be flexible. If you are 1st pick and want top or mid, and your last 2 picks are screaming mid/top or feed, sometimes you gotta just give it up or dodge because that's how you get afk's. Just report them after the game.

If the last pick asks for top and you're like second and want it but he isn't being a huge **** atm, just say this;
"yo, nothing personal, but I strongly prefer top so I'm probably going to snag it"

This sternly lets them know that they should respect pick order without shoving it in their face or stepping on their toes. If they throw a huge hissy fit and demand top or afk, give it to them and then report them after the game.

tl;dr let your team know your preferences and pick what's available without stepping on too many toes. If someone is being a little ****ing *****, just give them the role they want so they don't afk and report them after the game.

^^ perfect answer. unless you're planning on going pro its best to be at least moderately capable in all of the roles. Most people never actually "choose" a role they just play the roles they are most comfortable with. for example, i switch from support to adc to top to mid to jungle to top
