I think the gifting system is fine as it is because a Gift is what it is "an act of kindness not expecting anything in return"

Ripped off? You can't gift someone anything unless you have been friends 10 days. You give them a gift, its you giving them a gift and nothing more. How can that be a scam? "I'll give you one if you give me one!" - then they don't give you one, that's your own fault. I don't see that as a scam. Don't gift people you don't trust.

True dat. It would be weird of Riot to change mystery gifting just because some people are stupid enough to make stupid deals :p
I could imagine however, that Riot would implement something like a mystery skin which you can buy for yourself (I think they already did that once, but not make it permanent). Anyway, internet tip for everyone:
Do NOT trade anything with a person you do not trust completely and are unable to punch him in the face in case he is being naughty :3
