This a ****ing disgrace. Get your **** together Germany. This is not an age of censorship.

On a somewhat related political note: I really wish Sweden would stop being so ****ing scared of inducing the wrath of Mr.Murica. Literally the only political party that dares to oppose the US' spying is the Pirate party. Well at least now I know which party to vote for.

Wat?

Yes, the search-results.

Never heard of that topic in Germany. Should I? Could you summarize please because I don't understand most of it :o

Germany is censoring search results and sites that contain anything nazi or child pornography related and seems to be trying to censor criticism toward and leaks regarding their censorship. They don't want the public to know about this censorship.
The German government say that they're censoring lists of censored sites because they allow the links to get out.
They're using censorship as an excuse for censorship. Possibly a teeny-tiny bit idiotic..

So the only issue know is that no one is aware of these methods in particular or rather that content gets censored that shouldn't get censored?

Isn't that called the 'Index' in germany?

Like the game mentioned in the article, those were placed on the Index list aviable for publicity.

Both.

I'll assume you meant "publicly", not "publicity"..
Why would they try to censor something that has been available publicly? That makes no sense, you're probably thinking of something else.

So this is weird, in no small part because I don't think the BPjM really knows what the hell it's doing. This has a longer explanation of some of the silly stuff on the list, as well as a few reasons why it's basically ineffective at even doing its job in the first place. The pastebin linked there further reinforces some of the silliness, as well as explaining how to obtain the hashed list and from it generate a cleartext version.

Also, seriously, they were using MD5 and expecting it to be secure through magical secrecy?

I think it's kinda weird if they (Kjm) restrict the action of a netpolitician website because they published these lists using the argument that they were about "sharing child pornography" even tough it was a list of demoted links (this website, in German tho).
Funny fake websites btw :p

A list of hashes of urls to block is made public quarterly, according to the article. In the case of passwords and stuff those hashes are (usually) intended to be untranslatable. The techniques for the hashes in this list, however, simply suck and nowadays it's relatively easy(haven't tried myself though) to turn those hashes back into the original, human readable, list. So the readable list is basically public right now but it's assumable that it wasn't meant to be(why go though the trouble of hasing it then anyways? Then again, calculating an MD5 sum doesn't take that much resources... :-) ).

I don't particularly care whether it's effective or not, I think the basic idea that a government like Germany's decides to go (to such lengths) for censorship is something to think about for a moment.

Amen. It doesn't seem like other countries aren't scared though, so no surprises there.

Woooow, it's just getting worse. I seriously hope no media site/journalist will comply with this.
Thanks for the link.

Let's just say that they're not the brightest...
"I saw [Twilight: Eclipse] in theaters with a girl I was dating at the time. I spent more time staring at my toes and wiggling them than I did watching this abomination. When Edward proposed to Blank Face, I finally looked up with a revelation.
I blurted out loud, in a dead silent theater full of teenage girls on opening night "Wait a minute, Edward has no blood flow. How does he get an erection?" I heard several men laughing, and had several girls turn and stare at me.

I did not get laid that night." - Berengier817
