I don't really like him I tried him once on PBE and he just felt weightless and weak, but I heard they reworked him a little bit and I have been to busy to get back on and see what they changed about him. But as of now I don't really like him.

i remember a long time ago riot had a sand mage in the works, azir is supposedly said mage but still as you said i think this is wasted potential for a sand mage.
Well they mentioned in their patch preview that Azir IS the sand mage they were working on. The concept is wasted yeah, and when they said they started the Sand Mage's production when Ahri was released it kind of disappoints people more when they realise 2-3 years worth of work produced a boring character that doesn't really show the nature of a sand mage.
yeah i was thinking the same thing, i dont care much for sand mages but the only thing he does thats remotely sand mage-y is have sand particles connecting him and his soldiers, this "emperor/necromancer" thing could have easily went on a shadow isles champion instead (yorick rework, Ruined King champion they teased a loooooooong time ago when they made botrk saying hes a shadow isle character)

I personally really like his core concept of being an ancient emperor reviving his old soldiers to fight for him, BUT I feel like the sand mage design is utterly wasted on him. I mean, there could be so many cool things to be done with a mage that can control sand and instead of making a champion that uses the sand around him to make tsunamis, sinkholes, sand spikes, tornados or whatever they instead make him a sand necromancer. And this is especially wasted since they're saying that they most likely won't make another sand mage since they feel like this is the best sand mage they can make. ********! Sand mage is such an exciting idea with infinite potential and they decide to combine the concept with a necromancer. Why? If I wanted to do an earth mage (which would totally be balls as well) I wouldn't make it so that he uses earth to make weapons for himself. That's another kind of mage. I would make him into an ***kicking earthbender who uses his surroundings to smash his opponant into pieces.
But over to you guys, what do you think of him?
