I main top lane and play a lot of Jayce, Yorick, and Riven. I've also been playing Fiora lately. I had a pretty large champion pool, but over the past few months I've played most of the champions less and less. I've had almost every top laner in my pool at some point, so I can play most of the pretty well. So can anyone recommend me some more top laners to learn?

Also a quick question on Gnar. He was one champion that I started to play, but I lost so much with him even though I dominated. I talked to a friend and he said Gnar was bad, didn't have good teamfight, and couldn't carry. I still disagree with him, but I'd like to hear what your thoughts are on Gnar.

Thanks!

Depends how organized your team is. He is really fking annoying in ranked teams, as he can dive quite easily, initiate well, and can deal a lot of damage without actually building any damage items.
If I helped you out, be sure to throw me a +Rep!

God Tier - Maokai
"Melees cry when they see me" Tier - Ryze
"Put 100 games into me before you become any good" Tier - Rumble, Irelia, Riven.

First two champions will teach you two different, but very important things.
Ryze will teach you how to zone enemy out of experience and pressure them non stop.
Maokai will teach you the importance of tp ganks and how to teamfight as a CC bot.

I don't play the other 3 all that much, but they are really strong with a lot of carry and outplay potential. Some other champions to consider are Lulu, Jayce (you play him already) and Dr. Mundo, but stick to Mao and Ryze for now.

I do agree that his laning phase is ridiculous, but I think he's better as a midlaner, because he doesn't have the same tankiness as Ryze or kiting potential of Lulu. And he falls into "100 games to master" category. But if you're purple side, he's probably fine.

If you have already played most top laners, it might be hard to recommend anybody. You looking for somebody "fun" to play or somebody to carry you to Platinum? There is no shortage of "best" lists out there, but nerfplz lists the following for solo-queue:

God Tier: Wukong, Fiora, Ryze, Maokai

Tier 1: Rumble, Swain, Warwick, Irelia, Akali, Lulu, Malphite, Jarvan IV, Tryndamere, Gnar, Yorick, Singed, Teemo, Vladimir, Lissandra, Jayce, Riven, Heimerdinger, Pantheon

They think that Gnar is viable (Tier 1).

Some that I like are Gnar, Lissandra, Swain, Amumu, Cho'Gath, Heimerdinger, Darius, Volibear, Dr. Mundo, Nautilus, Skarner, Alistar and Maokai.

If you're looking for ranked top laners though you will find that unless you know exactly what you're doing most of these aren't very good picks.

I would say Gnar is pretty good right now. Your friend is right in the sense that he can have a low impact in teamfights if he's in Mini Gnar form the whole time, but that's honestly not the case most of the time (from my experience, anyway). Also, even with a full tank build he is still really scary in Mega Gnar form in terms of both damage and CC.

As far as other top laners go, I currently play / am working on Irelia, Rumble, Kayle, Dr. Mundo, Ryze and Maokai for team ranked. Out of those, I would definitely recommend anyone to learn how to play Irelia, because I feel she's a really good choice for showing players how to play top lane (or for generally improving their level of play in top lane). The reason I feel she's a good/interesting champion to play is because of her power level progression throughout the game, the reset mechanic of her Q and the slow/stun mechanic on her E; making effective use of these will often mean the difference between losing/winning a trade.

Note that some of the champions you already mentioned ( Jayce, Fiora, Riven) are probably better choices for solo queue than tank champions like Maokai and Dr. Mundo as they have more potential to carry a game. Also, as a final sidenote: if you're looking to climb, try to stick to one or two champions you're good at and play them as much as possible. Playing Jayce & Riven only (for example) will probably grant you better results than switching from Garen to Wukong to Riven to Jayce to Fiora to Darius to Yorick and then starting the cycle all over again. Good luck! :)
