And I didn't want it to look like you insulted me because that wasn't the case :D

Yeah there's a lot missing. I also kinda dislike bundling indie (rock) with pop, but w/e.

To add on what I entered in the poll, I can enjoy (nearly) every type of music (mostly alternative rock but anything with a good melody counts) as long as it is well produced. I do hate common pop though so I'm pretty much a hipster ^^

I got into the alternative music scene through my parents' music taste: my dad really loved R.E.M. and they were one of the groundbreaking Alt-rock groups. From there on I just listened to some Alternative internet radio's and expanded my taste like that.
Besides that I got into kpop because it's catchy and upbeat. Also can't deny that these girls look goooood ^.^

Quoted:

Besides, what does music "mean" to you? Is it just relaxing or even revealing or is it part of you expressing your personality? You can think of other things as well - maybe I'm too narrow-minded to actually think about such things ^_^

Music means everything to me. It sounds desperate but there's nothing I cannot express in music: my feelings (ranging from sad to angry and to happy), my personality etc. I listen to it to relax or to get pumped up for something.

Also, music is great if you want desperately have to wake up (also, NIGHTCORE) or just need an overkill amount of energy to make it through your day.

Oh and I also spend a ****ton of money on music overall. I'm a bit of an audiophile snob by spending hundreds of euro's purely on sound quality. (Got a 150€ soundcard fitted in my PC coupled with some Sennheiser headphones and Edifier studio monitors)

I would say Artcic Monkeys are Indie/ Alternative Rock and pls it's my absolute fave band

Depends on the albums you look at. Their older works are definitely Alternative Rock but their newer works lean towards alt-pop / indie rock.

Ok so I am back!

What I was actually trying to say earlier is that I do not consider bands like Arctic Monkeys, Imagine Dragons or even The Black Keyes and Coldplay to be (alternative) rock bands(I might be exaggerating about the latter two, not sure). While they do have some typical rock melodies/riffs, the pop elements are in many cases much more. I think that some people live under the misconception that these bands are the next Cranberries or R.E.M. This does not mean they are bad though, I actually like some songs of the above groups.

Personally, I listen to almost anything related to rock. My favourite band is Nirvana(not one of those silly fanboys though who only know of Smells like Teen Spirit). ACDC, System of a Down and Iron Maiden are a few other groups I love. I also like some rap artits(Eminem first who comes to mind).

What songs I listen to at a specific time of the day highly depends on the occasion. In my spare time, I mostly listen to rock. When I feel like I need some sort of motivation for an event, I am going with Rap/Hip Hop or even certain pop songs(which I normally dislike a lot).

I just suggest you add metal, classic rock/rock'n'roll and rap/hip hop to the list.

My music taste varies; I like Mayday Parade, Greenday, Arctic Monkeys, the 1975, 5SOS, Rocket To The Moon, Coldplay, Levi Kreis, The XX, essentially any group that can sing about **** that actually matters. My favourite songs though are basically kind of indie, "rockish" music. I think American rap is quite rubbish. I listen to music to breathe. It's definitely a way that I can express myself without being technically "vocal" about it.

I get your point there and I think it's hard to define what kind of music the genre "Alternative" covers in difference to other genres. It's like a collection of a wide spreaded area including many many aspects of modern pop music as well.
It also depends on a band's development. Just listen to the first or the second last Arctic Monkeys/ The Black Keys album.
Coldplay has nothing in common with what many people consider to be rock. As I've read they are considered to be a rock band I was literally coughing :p

I still hardly can listen to K-Pop. Maybe it's too much of everything for me and somehow I realized I hardly listen to any songs sung by women except for the xx or daughter ..

^^I don't understand why K-Pop is a thing either...Nobody listens to it my country lol.

To the point, the phainomenon of bands combining a lot of different genres of music with Rock, is indeed a very common one. Linking Park and Red Hot Chilli Peppers are probably the most successful bands doing this, even though I have the feeling that both have lost some popularity lately.

It makes sense when RHCHP aren't publishing a new album (but it's true, their last album in 2011 wasn't a success as far as I can judge this). I assume many people are still listening to it.
Linking Park's new album and the album before (it was worse than this one) weren't great deals, sad to say. I think they should work on their style because it has become monotonous and boring.

Honestly if you ask me most (about 70%) kpop is trash (especially boyband ones), but there are some songs that I find myself enjoying just because of the good tunes. As most of it is upbeat and extremely catchy it makes me feel happy and energized. This is one of my favourites. Also because it's all in Korean you don't really notice how cheaply written the lyrics really are x)

Then again, you also have to consider that I can appreciate nearly any kind of music so that probably helps as well.

But yeah, if you hardly listen to any female vocalists you'll have a hard time enjoying kpop because pretty much all of the voices are so high pitched (also, the lifespan of kpop artists is very short because of that lol). I'd suggest you check out Paramore (that got me into some other female vocalists) if you haven't yet.
