I've been thinking about Marks and I was wondering why people would split their marks when setting runes, and sometimes the other runes, into a 6-3 split as opposed to going to a full 9 set.

Splits are ultimately to balance late game vs early game.

Two examples.

6 ad 3 arp reds, for a 10 ad 10 arp page instead of 15 arp 7 ad, or 15ad.

Or, a 3 mr 6 mr/lvl page that gives you a bit of an early buffer, but still a strong late game magic resistance.
Tri lane for life.

sometimes it's for a balance.

for junglers, it is often because you only need so much armor pen early on to do near true damage.

balance of stats. That's it.

For ADC's people prefer arpen marks but they need the early game lane control so they go 3 ad marks

junglers go 6 arpen 3 ad to deal true dmg to creeps

I run a mix of 3 attk speed, and 6 arP on Hecarim when I'm jungling, helps him do more damage early game, and surprisingly ramps his attack speed up quite nicely come mid/late game. Like they said, it's to balance stats out.

stacks 15 AD or 25 ArP on ADCs because ultimately I feel splitting them isn't beneficial...But that's me. >

ArP marks and AD quints is pretty good, I wouldn't do the reverse of it though

so the splits are mainly for junglers then who benefit from quints other than AD.

I use 6 ArP 3 AD marks on Ezreal and Caitlyn. It just depends on what balance you want for laning.
