Hey there MOBAfolx!

Read post 2 for a short summary of the thread, as it is a long read.

Basically, what I need help with, is to polish and get support for this idea, so that it won't die once it reaches the LoL forums. We need to keep it alive until someone at Riot sees it :)

I've been thinking of the good things and the bad things in League of Legends lately, to see how each thing appeal to me, and perhaps find the reason why I keep playing. There was one thing that bugged me more than anything else; the LeaverBuster system.

Basically, everyone knows how annoying it is when someone leave, don't get me wrong, but some people just have very important real life issues to take care of. For example, their grandma died, or they have to go see a doctor. Whatever it is, when playing League of Legends, you're not always prepared that while you are playing, these situations do happen. Therefore, to prevent people from on top of having to log off, they get banned for leaving, I'd like to propose a new kind of system:

The Replacement Centre!

Basically, 5 times every day, you can go into a room like the custom games list, and pick games that has leavers in them, join those games as the leavers' champion, and temporarily take the items, masteries and runes that the leaver had on them, with you into the game. The leavers' team will then get a replacement teammate, and you will get the full brunt of their XP/IP (up to 20 minutes).

If it's a ranked game, and you win/lose, your rating will not be affected, but the leaver will be rated down in the same manner as "queue-dodging". This is a minor setback apart from being banned, so I think it's fair. This will keep players in Ranked games from leaving at will when they see they are losing, and overall create a more professional atmosphere.

How would this system work?

This system works like this: Someone starts a game of any kind, including Ranked (team games does not count, since it applies more understanding between the members of the team, and teams shouldn't report each other either. If someone destroys your team game by leaving intentionally, simply kick them from the team.)

So, when someone has started a game, and played a while, one of the players suddenly have to go, so they click the "end game" button in the pause menu. This will bring up a screen that says "searching for replacement summoner...". When someone then gets into that game, you will get a message saying "replacement summoner found". You will then exit the game.

If you leave the game in other manners than this, you will then get an *automatic ban*, because you already have a method of not being reported, avoiding that method will destroy your entire team's game, so it will result in you getting banned. This does not apply if you log back in before the game ends, as your PC may crash, or you might accidentally click alt+f4.

Why would anyone utilize such a system anyway?
The reason is simple; first of all, as mentioned just above, you get 20 minutes worth of xp, so even if you're on the losing side when you join, you get fast XP/IP. The con here is that to prevent misuse of intentionally losing fast to get fast IP, you have to play at least 10 minutes in a game to get any of it at all.

Why so long time limit before I get XP/IP from replacing a player?

Because you're not the original player, and therefore have to earn your place on the Fields of Justice together with your new teammates.

What will keep people from only using this system, and not start games themselves?

Well first of all, you need games to join, so someone has to start them. If the list is empty, it's obvious that it's better to start a game yourself.

You only have 5 tickets a day. When you have played five games that day using the system, you have to start games yourselves.

Another reason for not only using this system is that you only get 20 minutes worth of XP/IP. We all know the longer the game lasts, the more XP/IP you get. If you start a game yourself, and finish it to the end, you'll have the potential to get more XP/IP in total than those using the system gets.

You won't get rating in Ranked games either, so if you want to increase your rating, play a Ranked game without using the system.

The last, and perhaps the most appealing reason, is that you won't get to choose summoner spells, runes, masteries or items (well, apart from selling the ones you get and buy new ones). This is such a huge and enjoyable part of playing LoL that you don't want to miss it.

What will prevent people from intentionally leaving a losing game because their teammates doesn't want to surrender?

Well, when you leave a game from now on, you'll have to wait *until that game is over* before you can join a new one. If you leave 5 minutes into a game, and your character is replaced, it will take a long time before you can play again. This system is for those that has to leave games to do something important in real life, not for those intending to leave to rejoin a better game.

What if there is nobody using the system when I leave? Will I be banned then?

The thing is, there is such a small chance that you won't get it answered, since League of Legends has such a massive player amount, and this system will be appealing to use each day for IP farming. People should still not take easily on leaving, and if they don't get it answered, they will simply have to play on, or accept their automatic ban. They can always appeal their ban too.

If the leaver did something that I want to report them for, can I still report them after the game?

Yes you can, in the end of the game, both the leaver and the replacement's name will be written beside the champion, the leaver with the red letters we all know from current leavers.

Won't this make it harder to join a game in the queue, as most players would use the system instead?

This won't happen. As I've already mentioned, you only get 5 tickets a day, if you want to play more than that, you will have to join a game yourself.

Also, if you stay in the system all day, then it will certainly slow down the queue, which will make it a long wait between each leaver. It's better to then join the queue yourself to compensate.

Summary:

Suggestion Title: The Replacement Centre
Brief description: The Replacement Centre is a system that lets a leaver get a replacement player in their game, avoiding destroying someone's game because they have to leave.
Why do we need this: Because someone has perfectly valid reasons for leaving, and in a top-tier game like LoL they shouldn't be punished for that.

I think the only reason Riot invented LeaverBuster was because they had no other choice. Now I'm giving them another choice, and it's up to them to take it or leave it as they see fit.

FaQ's are answered in the first post. Read them before you ask a question, so you can see if I already answered it.

An automatic ban oO? I have 20'ish normal leaves and 1 ranked leave.
And thoose times i had to hurry, i wouldn't be sitting there waiting for someone to take my spot.

I like the idea of replacement, i do however think that the system should grant more ip. I think it should grant the amount of full-game time.

I do however see one backside of this: "OMG NOOOB LEAVE SO WE CAN GET A NEW TEAMMATE OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG btw ur mom"

@Pølsemanden

Thanks for replying, I see what you mean, but the fact is, this is the best option I can think of, apart from perhaps an automatic warning, with an increasing seriousness based on how much you do it. The point is, this is the ticket out of LeaverBuster and the ban, so you can take it or leave it ^^ You only get an automatic ban for leaving while not using the system, and you don't have to sit and wait for the game to find a replacement, since your game will quit once there is an replacement anyhow.

The amount of IP you get must be discussed further, this is what I currently suggest, since we need restrictions after all, so it won't be universally abused.

The last one is easy to avoid, becaue there's a feature called ignore ;)

I hope this suggestion gets better though, I need more critisism :)

i'm not a fan of the "ignore" feature, it promotes non-team gameplay and i would not wish such a thing to happen.

Well u could do what riot does now, and just let it go to the tribunal. Opposed to popular believe the tribunal works, and ppl do get banned there.

Do you think "Leave so we can get a new teammate" promotes team gameplay then? ;) No, it's better to ignore them and just ping to communicate.

If we do what Riot does now, it misses the whole point of having this system. The point is that people with good reasons to leave the game should be able to leave the game, like you can in almost any other online game out there. It provides quality, and doesn't pressure people to finish. This will make it so that people doesn't have to prioritize "do I have an hour where nothing else happens now, or do I have to play another game?".

It becomes a problem because the games are so long, and the probability for something requiring their attention during that time is actually very high.

I don't see why anyone would choose using this system over simply playing a game of their own. You lose the freedom to choose your own champion, summoners and items (I'm guessing it may be a different story for runes and masteries?) and you enter a game in which you'll most likely lose anyway. I know you say people might get some fast XP/IP from it, but if they have to play for at least 10 minutes even that's not guaranteed since the team might lose/surrender before those 10 minutes are over.

Leavers usually leave because their teammates are really bad and they're annoyed by that, or because they are being owned themselves, playing really badly and just want to quit. In both cases, the replacement player enters a game in which he finds his enemies being (extremely) fed and in which his team has a disadvantage because of that so winning in teamfights will also be hard.

Also, if someone leaves a game, they can't rejoin a new game, lol.
The message saying they disconnected and should reconnect is the only thing they see, there's no way they can enter a new queue until the game is over. Leavers don't mind, they just go play Tetris for a while or something :P

Oh and eh... If you're in a hurry and really really need to leave, you won't have time to wait for a replacement. Even if you find one, your teammates will probably report you anyway, that's just what happens to leavers. If the real reason you left is that there is something really important that happened (family member passed away, house is on fire or w/e), it also means that'll probably happen only once. If you get reported for leaving once, I'm not even sure you'll be banned. Even if you are, it won't be for long.

So really, I don't think this is a great idea, sorry :|

Thanks for your input, it certainly needs to be improved if it were to be implemented of course.
