Slowing has most of the time a longer duration. If you are chasing a champion with no escapes (Or the escape is on CD) then slow could be more favorable as the window is longer to hit the champion with attacks. Most slowing skills also slows attackspeed, which lowers the damage output of the enemy champion. But in reality immobilizing stuff tends to be stronger.

I can't think of any scenario where you would rather slow the enemy as opposed to hard CCing them. The only thing even vaguely close is if you've got a champion that can constantly reapply slows against a champion like Irelia where something like
Dark Binding ends up being rather brief, but even that argument is a stretch.

Considering that most slows duration > stuns duration, slow is better when chasing an enemy who is already in attack range and is fleeing without retaliating.
Well dunno yet if this was changed since i didnt yet felt it, if you are immobilised you cant use certain skills involving teleporting/movement (duh!) so immobilize will always be stonger since the lack of flash possibility etc.
But if you consider slow over stun... it is as already said the matter of time. If the stun is for like 0.5 and your slow is for 1.5 sec it already makes a diference. It is also very dependable on champion you are playing. I find it better to slow enemiest while playing melee, and stunning them when playing ranged beeing better.
Too many variables here to clearly state what is better.
The best nevertheless is MS stealing (like Malphite) it works both ways, is viable in all situations etc. And making som1 move slower and you faster gives you soooo much more than just slowing :D

Thanks for the responses, I hadn't put much thought into the time difference between the effects but yeah the fact that slows last longer than immobilisations (usually speaking)does help make slows more useful. Although you'd also have to consider the time it takes the champ who was immobilised to get back to safety considering a slowed champ is still covering ground but again this comes down to a comparison of the time between both effects in question.
Also chasing is made of more than just cc its also based upon your own movement abilities as DEWO pointed out so Kass being one of the best chasers is primarily because of his blink not his slow (even though it is pretty good apart from not being available all the time) and as such doesnt really have much to do with the question which was a theoretical about situations where slowing is more favourable than immobilising not just which is better overall. I can think of a scenario, but the only reason it would be better is because of miscommunication.
Imagine you are chasing a target in a straight line, along bot lane heading towards blue side. You have a skillshot champion (let's say lux) chilling in the bushes near double golems. Your lux fires off her ult leading the target as she should and would secure the kill, however, at the same time you cast rune prison on the target, stopping them short, and saving them from the ult. In this situation, a slow COULD be more effective, but actually, I'd use the term 'less harmful'
Other than that odd situation, just what other people have been saying, what with the slow duration and whatnot. I'd rather have wither for a chase than cryptic gaze :P
