I think he is a pretty good champ, but I personally don't have much experience with him.

I don't know a lot about super high elo play, but he's definitely not bad. Honestly, if you really enjoy playing him then you should! And if you just start playing you will definitely have time to save up more IP to buy more champs that may be more commonly used in high elo play. :)

Ezreal is considered a great champion even on high elo. He has a good mix of AD and AP. You will never get locked by thornmails and so on. He can be build 2 ways so you can pick him and decide what team demands are atm.
Pretty strong laner with short cd's and quite good escape mechanism. Great burst on AP build.
Ok debuffer (the AS one) that can make carries very vurneable or slow down tower destroyiung process.
So if you played with him and you feel you are good with him, he is a great choice imho.

Since his AD buff, his ulti became more viable in AD with 1:1 ratio. Seeing it remove half the health of Veigar, I think he's good in lategame if (as any other champ) farmed up well, not to count fed well. All you need is bastard "you can't catch me/tease" mentality mixed with caution and he's one of those champs that irritate enemies at enemy base ^^

I know some will say it depends on the player and almost every champ is viable, but is he rly a good choice for the future? And what I mean is: is he viable in a WCG Grand Final? Something like that.
