We use Skype fairly regularly for games on EUW and as far as I can tell it has no discernible effect on my ping.

Skype has many bugs with sound, mics and etc but when that is fixed there is no lag problem or anything.

You should provide us with more data. What is your upload and download speeds since DSL can be even 64kb/s and even 20Mb/s.
Well also its good to know that there are ppl that dont own a mic out there :P

skype uses minimal bandwidth. you will be fine with a dsl connection. you can also download Game Booster which closes all unnecessary programs/background services to speed up your computer/net. hope this helps :)
edit: some more info for you
for ADSL connection, but it could be considerably less as skype automatically selects the best codec depending on the connection between yourself and the person you are calling. On average, Skype uses between 3-16 kilobytes/sec depending on bandwidth available for other party, network conditions in between, callers CPU performance, etc.
On average 720kb per minute
3.6mb over 5min
7.2mb over 10minutes
43.2mb per hour
You can also do this,
Tools--> Options--> Advanced--> Connection-->
Then tick "Display technical call info during calls" and "Display Skype bandwidth usage"
Now while in a call you can hover your mouse over the call window and it displays a massive popup with all the bandwidth details!
enjoy!

Click +Rep if you thought I was helpful please! Also check out my Ryze build!
I will Ryze to the occasion... hur hur
I've found that Skype is optimal compared to other voice communication programs (for example Ventrilo) as long as the host isn't at a isolated location.

If I helped +Rep, if I didn't then +Rep the person who did.
Skype doesn't use a lot of bandwidth. I have never seen a real effect on my games when using it, although I do find 'Teamspeak' to be a much more effective VoIP software. Definitely get a mic, it's completely necessary to anyone who is interested in serious gaming.
