Just like I don't know much about the US, it seems like you don't know much of the EU either.

Well I'm a History and Political Science major and the focus of my Political Science degree is on Modern European Politics and the European Union, so by most peoples accounts I would know quite a bit about the EU, probably more than the average European citizen actually

You're also polarized as all hell and very much of the black and white creed.
I mean, just the fact that you instantly turned this into a US vs EU discussion when I poked fun at a flaw in the US should be clear evidence.

So one would do well to take anything from you with a tablespoon of salt.

yes guys lets make guns illegal in the states.

that way the only people who have guns are already criminals in the first place.

Quoted:
and to be honest the consitution is 200+ years old, the people that wrote the second amendment were using muskets that took 3 minutes to reload one bullet, now people are have guns that can shoot dozens of bullets in way less time, the law should be changed as the technology grows but it isnt and thats a problem

There's a huge practical issue of removing guns from a continent that has had gun culture for centuries. Saying that removing the guns would cut down on gun crime is a far cry from actually removing guns from that place. You're talking about a place that has so many unregistered and illegal guns that you're probably more likely putting normal everyday registered gun owners into potential danger.

It's not a matter of changing the constitution or amending the amendments. It would be practically impossible to enforce, let alone worry about trying to pass the bill to change the amendment/constitution.

Saying that laws should evolve with technology is one thing, but it completely ignores the practicality of passing such a law.

I love it when people post something that's an oxymoron, that way I don't have to come up with a witty remark myself.

To clarify in light of Sirell's argument – which is a very good point to raise: That isn't really a valid point to make. “Everyone should be allowed to own guns because otherwise only those who break the law are the ones who own guns.” is one of the most overused backwards arguments out there regarding this very subject. Also, I don't think that the major problem is that people own guns, but rather the control of it; which seems poor at best. I personally don't see much value in owning a gun, but then again I didn't grow up in that type of culture.

Regarding Moon's data; I am well-aware that gun ownership doesn't have a direct relation with number of deaths but I would definitely be surprised if it had no relation whatsoever with incidents like the one mentioned in the OP. If that's indeed not the case, I'd be very interested in seeing that.

So much to read. my reaction: Making guns illegal is not going to stop people from getting them. It won't change much in the long run. If someone wants to go into a place and kill people they will find a way even if it isn't with a gun. Killing people is illegal but that clearly isn't stopping people.

Agreed, although I think it'll prevent 15-year olds from getting access to them.

While I don't necessarily disagree, I do think it's a weak argument, because by that logic you might as well legalise everything.

It's a hell of a lot easier to stop a guy with a knife than it is to stop a guy with a gun. A guy could find a way to kill people without a gun, but he'd kill a lot more with one.
