This happened to me while roaming Rotten Tomatoes, an .iso kept popping up wanting to save, and I just continued canceling it over and over until firefox alone was taking around 300-400MB of memory.
I just said to Hell with it and restarted the computer, worked fine since.

1st of all try turning your AV software off, and try again.
Other than that go to control panel->Internet Options->Find here a connection tab->click on LAN settings and check if you have any proxy set there. You should only have "Automaticly detect settings" tagged. If you have anything more, untag it.
Check the internet again.
If that doesnt work go to Security tag.
check the intenet icon, and set it to lowest possible position. Untag (if it was secure mode for IE) and check the intenet again.
What internet connection do you use. How are you physicaly connected. your operating system?

this has happened before, and my dads a networking guy, so he was able to fix it, something about internet explorer trying to connect through some proxy or something, which i never use a proxy or anything. i'm pretty sure this is the same problem and i tried to do what my dad did last time but it didn't work. does anyone know how to fix this? because i can't get on LoL until it works.
i've also been getting the same message from my anti-virus, that it keeps blocking some program thats trying to mess with my internet...
