I've tried soloing blue (with Soraka) with the exact stuff he had in that video (including runes, I used that video as reference at the time), and it's just not possible at level 1.
Maybe it's an old video. Jungle creeps used to have negative MR, now they don't.

Yeah I did the same with his Cho'Gath video and died to blue :P.
