What is the best support champion
Well, 
Taric is just a better version of Sion in terms of supporting. But they both work nice together.(put Urgot or Tristana mid and all is good.)
Heimerdinger steals waaay to much farm from his teammate and his grenade, his only cc, is hard to land. Of course, you have free wards with turrets, but for that, you loose the lane hard.
Anivia has lots of cc, but not enough mana to keep it up.
Winterkai, of course.
Lux is Lux, she is more like Morgana than a real support, her playstyle is a bit too aggressive, supporting would harm that very hard.
Nautilus, never seen him, but I think, he is just a weaker version of Maokai, especially earlygame.
I miss Fiddlesticks support, he has great cc and his ult acutally reminds me a bit on Nunu & Willump in terms of that.

Agreed. If anything, Maokai is a weaker Naut.
Mao has super heavy mana issues and once he initiates, he's in for good.
Mao has better poke though.
Every champion that has any kind of CC can technically be labeled as support, the way people talk about it. Technically this entire game is about supporting your allies, so please stop naming everybody with CC. We know.

Karma and Galio are both highly underrated as support. Nunu also does amazing things for a team, but even with his targeted buffs and aoe ult, I really don't think of him as support, since you almost can't build him effectively for that role. Same thing for blitz, who is hard to fit into any category of champ.
Finding the best support probably has more to do with team comp than it does with actual gameplay, though.

Why do people equate "support" with "people with heals and shields."?
If you've never been against a Nautilus support, if he lands Q, you die.
