Dive in and learn everything you need to know before jumping into your first few games in the 2026 Season. For Demacia!
Demacia Arrives
Act 1 of the 2026 Season will be Demacian-themed, with all the white and gold and petricite that comes with it—think default Galio, as an aesthetic. The theme will revolve around the golden age of Demacia. Snow will melt away from Summoner's Rift, giving way to a more classic rendition of the Rift, with structures taking on that Demacian style.
The overall goals of 2026 when it comes to the game is twofold. One, give equal importance to every role in the game. At the moment, and for a long time now, junglers and support players have been able to impact the game at a higher degree than the solo and bot laners, and in 2026, Riot aims to change that. Two, get rid of "objective overload." In 2025, a lot of the game seemed to revolve around teamfighting over neutral objectives. Explosive 5v5s are fun, but there's more to the game, and Riot wants that "more" to take a more center stage in 2026.
Atakhan, and the Jungle
To that end, one big change is the removal of Atakhan—which is super apt considering what happened to him canonically in our final cinematic of the 2025 Season. Atakhan was added to the game at the beginning of last year and has been a dominating force throughout the year. There have been a few changes to Atakahn, but overall his impact has not waned. Baron Nashor will regain his position as That Objective, and will be back to spawning at 20 minutes.
With Atakhan gone, so are the Blood Roses and Petals that came with him. Additionally, Feats of Strength are being removed from the game, another element that contributed to the extra-importance on objective control. But don’t worry, there are other ways to earn gold and rewards from objectives in 2026, namely when it comes to turrets. Void Grubs and Rift Herald will have stronger effects, and comeback experience is stronger for the dragons and Baron Nashor.
Turrets
To pull influence away from teamfighting and towards sieging turrets, a new mechanic has been added called "Crystalline Overgrowth." Crystalline Overgrowth functions kind of like a universal demolish effect. The longer a turret hasn't been hit, the more this feature builds up over time. When a turret is finally hit, the Crystalline Overgrowth will be consumed, dealing an extra burst of damage. This makes every character in the game a potential good sieger, not just Caitlyn and Ziggs.
Additionally, Turret Plating now sticks around permanently and has been added to inner and inhibitor turrets. However, no new gold has been added to the Rift, it’s just been redistributed. Basically, there are more turret plates now, but they grant less gold apiece.
Vision
Vision has always been within the support's jurisdiction, but a new change will make everyone a little bit better at it. Summoner's Rift now has designated "Faelights" which are locations where wards are more potent. If you place a ward in a Faelight, they will grant more vision. These locations are predetermined, some spawning early on and some only in the mid and late game.
Role Quests
The biggest and most exciting change is probably the addition of role quests. Each role will now have a unique quest to fulfill, which acts similar to how support and jungle quests work so far. This change aims to fix the issue of some of the roles in the game feeling inconsequential. This is especially aimed at top laners and bot laners, who are currently the two weakest roles. Because of that, their quest rewards might feel a bit too powerful, but only time will tell. You will progress your quest by killing minions, champions, plates, and turrets; all things that you'd normally be doing in the game. Upon completing your quest, you'll get:
Top Lane
Top laners will get a longer cooldown version of the Teleport Summoner Spell for free, on top of the two spells they already chose. If one of your spells was already Teleport, you'll instead get a stronger Teleport as your third spell. Additionally, top laners will receive an up-front bonus to experience, more experience from future sources, and an increased level cap. Top laners will now be able to reach level 20, rather than 18.
Mid Lane
Mid laners will receive a free tier 3 boot upgrade, like the ones you could've purchased if you'd won the Feats of Strength during the 2025 Season. Additionally, mid laners will gain an empowered 4-second recall with a cooldown.
