Are Quintessences of Gold still good in S5 on a support?

Hello guys, I used to play in S3 then I left the game for a while and I am back now in S5. I usually play as a support and I gladly noted that they can finally buy a quite decent variety of items in this Season.

I figured out in few games that in this season tanks are absolutely overused. For this reason I really liked Face of the Mountain, with its health scaling shield, health bonus and gold sharing, I found it useful in many situations.

Now my question is: are Quintessence of Gold still a viable option as a support in this Season? They virtually give you a free (almost) Sightstone with an average gain of 702 gold in a 50 minutes game... Face of the Mountain can give you even triple that ammount if you care about sharing cannon minions. So, are they still good or Face of the Mountain can give you all the gold you need and is better to pick more defensive runes?

Typical rune setups for supports don't contain Greater Quintessence of Gold anymore. Most people run Greater Quintessence of Armor alongside Greater Seal of Health in their rune setups. With the addition of the new support items and changes to gold income in Season 5 other runes simply became much more useful than gold generating ones.

So new support items will do all the job...well, I am really happy to read that, on the other side now I have to buy new support runes...wich are pretty expensive...
    Ty for the answer =)

Having a solid lane phase far outweighs getting only 700 gold in 50 minutes. The passive gold gain from Relic / Spellthief's is consistent enough gold income for the early game already

Gold quints are good on supports that play very passively, like Janna. For more aggressive supports like Leona, or supports that should build tanky, like Alistar or Braum, it's usually better to take armor quints.

the gold generating quints and yellows still have their place in some situations.

Consider a losing lane where your adc doesn't know how to play and there's nothing you can actually do to win a battle.

The gold generation will go a long way in those types of games.

But generally if you are winning your lane or even going even in lane and your adc isn't feeding relentlessly you won't need the passive gold.
