If I would like to buy a Chroma for a gold coin, but I do not own the skin itself, will it unlock?

The way it works is that you'll "own" the chroma, but you won't be able to use it until you own the champion and the skin. If you want to buy the chroma now and get the skin later, it'll be usable once you own the skin.
