    G'day.
    One simple question: can leaving placements mess up my MMR?

    you lower your MMR by 2 points by leaving I believe

    Once you are placed you lose LP, it's -3 LP first dodge a day and -10 LP for each subsequent dodge. However you do NOT lower your MMR no matter how much you dodge. His question is about the first 10 placement matches though.

    As far as I know, no. I left once both this placement and last year's. You don't lose MMR when dodging (just LP if you're already in a league) and it doesn't count as a loss when you're being placed, so I guess you can dodge without much consequences.

    Dodging too many times might affect you somehow though (ban warning or some other negative effect because free dodging isn't really supported by Riot). Dodging just once or two separated (non-consecutive) times probably won't do any harm.
