Actually, I've been holding this thought for a while. Are hybrids becoming more extinct because at this point it's basically just Akali. Kayle is mostly full AP now and Jax is full AD now while I still build Guinsoo's Rageblade on the former and Hextech Gunblade on the latter for hybrid and sustain and it doesn't seem any weaker, actually stronger in most cases. Anybody wanna enlighten me?
Yes and no. There will always be a lot of champions that both deal physical and magical damage (shyvana, for example) but they won't build hybrid items because it's quite inefficient (because of resistances etc). Also, jax and kayle shouldn't build rageblade and hextech gunblade, there are better damage alternatives (nashor's tooth for kayle, blade of the ruined king / trinity force for jax)
I personally disagree here I still get my trinity and botrk on Jax even with gun blade and I can't use regular ap Kayle due to no sustain, I get a kick out of sustain on her hybrid or even ad(played once) form
The bonus AD from hextech gunblade gives akali a bonus 7% spellvamp - or something crazy like that. I think it's not critical, but it's more helpful than you think
The reason hybrid items aren't in high favor right now is because riot hasn't made a hybrid % penetration item. There's no 'hybrid' version of Last Whisper, or Void Staff. If that item did exist, hybrid damage champs might favor that item more than their current builds - however it also depends on the numbers of the item they made.
Because a little bit of resistances counter hybrid items, it's usually just better for champions to go AD or AP.
