"I have had the exact same thoughts. However, tanky DPS are already considered somewhat OP, so the item would really have to be well balanced, so the tanky DPS champions don't become too overpowered. "

"Well, I have tried both items, but I honestly prefer building more tanky items on him. You sure have more burst with more AP. I think ap/tank works fine on Malphite, but it requires a bit different playstyle imo. "
