You spend gold for a great deal of consistent health mitigation for magic and physical damage.
Warmog's is a giant chunk of health and regen, making you pretty unkillable at the point and time if its your second item.
Plus it's an amazing counter to AP champs as well as the beloved Black Cleaver Meta. Armor stacking isn't as good as Warmogs rush currently.
