Gnar works pretty fine with much attackspeed and some dmg because his W deal magic dmg with every 3rd hit you got a good mix and you shred tanks pretty easily but if turn to mega gnar you won´t be...

A Mix of both is extremly strong.
I did win many games with this build
Berserk Boots > Hydra > Trinity > Phantom > Infintiy > Zhonyas
because of the 100 ap of zhonyas you got...
