"I usually feel bad for using syndra, not because I suck with her but because I feel like she's a real nightmare to go against. Damage output is ridiculous and if she takes 1-2 kills during lane phase you pretty much can't share the space unless you have a really long range safe farmer."

the equalizer is about sense of opportunity and an understanding of what's happening. You have to get a real idea of how much damage you'll deal and what are you should cover.
