"Well in S2 pros used GP10 seals frequently but the ambient gold gain went up and now there's sightstone so the impact of that 2.25 gp10 isn't as big anymore. You're now a lot better off with armour. Especially when you're playing Sona the minion."

Nope. He's slow, his ult isn't as strong anymore since the nerf and his damage becomes non-existent after mid-game.
