Okay, just so we're clear, 
Heart of Gold is a great early game for tanks and supports. I run Gold quints and masteries on them but without Heart of Gold this will go downhill fast. I need that early game cash and durability! Agree/criticize?

#2: Ambient gold generation has been increased to 16 (from 13), which is equivalent to having 3
HoG was broken. HoG provided a stat useful to EVERY CHAMPION that does not even put you far behind for what it's passive is.
Agree, plus the new itemization for Randuin's is ok to me. Never built iron locket, so idk about that.
Plus there's a bunch of great gold garnering options for supports now, and Avarice blade got some weird update for bruisers.
But HoG was too versatile and anyone could use it. (Except the ADC).
Again, top laners could use it to passively snowball their lane.
Junglers should have a lot more gold available in the new jungle. It's also kind of a bad game element if the junglers barely even clear their own camps (laners have been clearing most of the jungle recently) and run off of gp10s instead. The new jungle will be tougher, requiring some investment to clear efficiently, but returns a lot more gold. This makes farming the jungle a bit more effective than it is now, reducing the amount of passive lane play due to constant ganks.
Supports are getting a ton of new items to build. The removal of HoG will make them a little squishier, but Philo/Kage's will become the new norm and supports won't really be adversely effective. You'll probably pick up Ruby Sight Stone anyway, which gives some health.
