"I'm also used to max e instead of w. But with Patch 4.20 the jungle got really way stronger and if you max w you get a bigger shield and way more lifesteal and spellvamp. I'm pretty sure that maxing e is still totally viable but I "felt" better with maxing w - tried both already.

Maybe it gets more clear if you read the notes:
Randuin's Omen and Banshee's Veil ("Classic Tank Items") are default tank items for Lee Sin in my opinion. But in some cases and different matchups other tank items ("Tank Options"] are better.
