There's no luck involved. It's all about skill and you usually get punished hard for your mistakes.
Besides that, on Demon Souls there's always the fear of invasion (by another player, since u're permanently online)...

"Without doubts on the most frustrating games i've ever played (due to it's dificulty) but it's also one of the most rewarding games ever. hard to match the feeling u get when you defeat a boss in Demons Souls..."
