"You only have to play up until you're defeated, they recently changed it so you can't wait until a certain time threshold and leave to get the tokens, you now actually have to be present to lose.
As for token gain, it's not bad:
1-2 place: 8 tokens
3-4 place: 6 tokens
5-6 place: 4 tokens
7-8 "

"I've never used the App so I can't personally say whether or not it works on granting tokens if the games are played via the App. Your best bet would be to try it when the pass comes out in a week or so."
