I played lots of duoQ normals with my friend and we figured it would be the funniest to play in the same lane so I started maining bot lane.
Back when I mained ADC I did it because ADC was ez and I liked sivir. Literally the only reason.
I transitioned to Jungle because all my friends just decided to main other roles, they loved one champion and played them until they just knew the lane and felt comfortable there, so I transitioned to jungle to pick up the slack.
When I stopped playing with them, a lot of them transitioned roles, picked up new friends, so on and so forth and kinda just melded to the team at the time.
When I started playing again, I picked mid lane at first because I wanted to learn it, But I skipped out of it when I realized I really didn't care that much anyways.
So now I main top lane, I like the 1v1 atmosphere, I enjoy playing bruisers, and teleport is such a fun Summoner. I actually started to main Top literally because I picked irelia and I went like, 23/4 against a Plat level top laner in a normal (Thanks internet for giving me the ability to check the rank of other players) and I was like "I think I was made for this role." Though I really enjoy top lane, so I kinda just went with it.
I picked my sub-main (ADC) because I really enjoy playing carries, Sivir is my favorite ranged champion, And I heard she was good when I came back, so the first thing I did was spam sivir games, It was fun, And I liked it.
Honestly I play every role except mid lane (I'm just atrociously bad at mid, I'll only play TF mid (I'll eventually pick up a secondary) and I don't know much about the lane), But top and ADC are my priority picks.
If you enjoy every lane, and enjoy the game no matter what you're playing, pick your first and second best roles and main them, or alternatively, your two WORST roles and main those to improve. Always have another role to play though, It gets boring spamming the same lane over and over sometimes!
Another note: try playing ten straight games only in that role, if you start to get kind of bored, It may not be the best role :P

Ban out GoodPlays GG
You NEED to know at least two other roles decently. There's not a single person in the world who ALWAYS gets their role, ranked or normals, Unless you only play exclusively team builder it will never happen. That is why I suggest learning another lane as well.

When I first started playing LoL, I would continuously play with friends as they were the ones that got me into it in the first place. I ended up maining support because that would be the role left open the most often since everyone else always wanted roles that would get them the "spotlight". I eventually grew to really love the role despite all of the mean ADCs you sometimes would have to deal with. But for every 10 jerks, you get that one person that compliments you and calls you a god whenever you make an amazing play and really appreciates what you do and that's one of the best feelings in the game <3
Just keep playing, and you'll eventually find the role (and champion) you just click with :D

I think its good to know them all but its also good to have that one role you excel at. For me its probably mid or jungle (yasuo, ahri and vi are my faves :) so if you can play your favorite role, play it but assuming you don't play a lot of team builder its good to play them all
You are dragging the virtual campfire stories out of people, you know xD
When I started playing, the support role was really unpopular. Knowing my own clumsiness (read: awful at csing, stutterstepping etc.), thinking support was for a big part a mind game (I still do), and realizing that I wouldn't have trouble getting it (there was no teambuilder, only blind pick), I went for it. Besides, who doesn't want to cripple/immobilize/silence/stun people like some puppet master from time to time?
At some point I got interested in jungling (not too far from support I guess) so I did that for a while. Then I started playing more with some people where I often ended up in the top lane. I've been somewhat stuck there since then. I want to pick mid up a bit and get my supporting back to shape though. So annoying when you're playing a game and you're constantly like "I would've done that better back then". I just gave up on adc, too mechanical for my tastes. I tried plenty of times though.
TL;DR: Just start playing. At some point you'll end up somewhere. If you don't like where you are, move.
