And Jani; the heroic edition gives you some pretty good stuff thats useful to new players, but is ultimately unnecessary (though it does give you 3 armor sets you cant get any other way)
Why has this game been popping up constantly as of late? If the offer is still up the next time I think of it I'll get it. I've never managed to really get into MMOs but from what I've heard this is the promised one that's going to change everything. Like all other MMOs. Still, I might just give it a shot.
Question for veterans: is it worth starting from scratch at this point in the game or is this simply a final-effort-to-get-some-money-out-of-this-game sale?

Comparatively to other MMO's it is vastly different. It has a lot of flaws (as every MMO does) but I'd say it justifies itself and stands out from the crowd with it's focus on cooperation. The game feels less like a massive chat room where you seek allies, and more of a place where heroes just naturally come together to fight common enemies.
Also, it's probably the only MMO where the company that makes it seems to give a damn about what the players like or dislike within the game, as numerous patches tend to be focused around key player issues.
As for your next question; this deal isn't because the game is dying. The deal is because the expansion Heart of Thorns will be released this year and they are simply advertising and hyping. Very worth buying it now (on the sale) even if you don't intend on buying HoT, imo.
