I **** on it all the time. It's easy to kite for most midlaners, it's easy to control and it's hell for you to farm.
Back when AP yi was a thing, I'd say yes. But now that they took away the only good thing there was to master yi, I'd say no.

As far as I'm concerned, most people are used to play by Yi in the jungle. But you have to feed him first from the jungle then you have to find you enemies with low health range. However, if you look for runes and masteries, I recommend to watch some videos in YouTube
As a new player, I definitely would not suggest taking Yi to mid lane. You are still learning what every champion can do, how to properly cs while poking, when to engage or disengage, ect. The people who can take Yi mid are the people who have enough experience that they have Master Yi mastered. This means they know every matchup, how to deal with weaknesses, how to keep a high creep score, what to build when and why, ect. Until you get to the point with Yi that you don't have to question anything then I would stay away from mid lane until you are ahead in the game and roam from top, or as a jungler you are just ganking. Especially since most mid laners can kite you all day, burst you down, and just keep you cc'd while there jungler kills you.

Anyway, lately I've been experimenting with a champion one of my friends recommended to me--Master Yi. I used to take him on top lane and generally did okay, but one of my teammates said that I needed to improve my build (no, I didn't get six Doran's Blades, but I always got items from the recommended section). I ended up Googling how to build Yi, and the first guide I saw back then was Master Yi S5 Mid by Pognog. Since it was the most popular and highest rated guide out of MOBAFire, I figured why not, although it was intended for mid lane. Anyway, the guide was an extreme help for not only my build, but also my play with Yi, which I am still indebted to Pognog for. Eventually, since the guide was made for the mid lane, I figured that it wouldn't hurt to try going Yi mid.
Well, naturally, I was bashed a little for calling mid and picking Yi. I soon found out why when I was plunged into the terrifying world of AP mage powerhouses such as Annie, who destroyed me then because A) Annie is one of the worst matchups for Yi (although I didn't know it back then) and B) I was unaccustomed to ranged attacks and hard CC abilities. I kept trying, though, and eventually I was relatively okay at playing mid with Yi for my level, sometimes even carrying the team with over thirty kills.
Now that I'm approaching higher levels, though--and based on what I have read on forums--the general opinion seems to be that Yi does not belong in mid lane and rather in jungle or top. I'm assuming that I don't understand because I haven't played against a capable mid opponent in a while due to my lower levels, but I want to prepare for the inevitable when I do get closer to ranked-level matches so I don't screw my team.
Tl;Dr: Is Master Yi a viable champion for the mid lane? If not, then what are his disadvantages?
