Eventually I'd like to get/have someone help me build a desktop, since a good desktop is so much cheaper than a decent laptop, but I have no guarantees of having room for a desk atm.
If you're gonna spend that much again on a desktop, I would personally recommend looking at my build but I would look at a better CPU, I would increase the price range on the CPU by $50 at least for an i5. The motherboard can be upgraded too if it matters that much, and dropping more money to get more RAM would be worth. 4GB isn't a lot at all these days. As for the Power Supply, you can find an upgrade for it, but if you want something that's bang for buck, then you can't go wrong with that Power Supply. At the end of it all, what matters most is what you want to do with the desktop. Personally, I want a PC that can livestream. You can take some advice from the AMD 'fans' if you want, but I don't recommend that stuff. It runs really hot, it's really loud and it can't run PhysX. If you do end up with AMD, I would recommend investing into a strong aftermarket cooler for the hardware.
Short Term Goals: Silver/Gold/Platinum || Long Term Goals: Diamond/Master/Challenger

I think, with the 2 year accidental warranty and the shipping, it was around $825, but the laptop was also on sale for nearly $200 less than it normally would be (in August laptops are often a lot cheaper).
