So, Azir got picked up in the LCS, but what made him a good pick in such high play if in SoloQ he is regarded as a trollass champion, and is he even good at all? Is he a legit champ or MLG Dank LCS material?

For 99% of the people, he is just too hard to play for him to being effective. That's why.

In soloqueue I regard him as something that'll wipe teams late-game. I've never seen someone calling Azir trollass before.

I don't want to give a biased answer but it'll probably end up being that way.

I adore Azir but I honestly don't think he's an effective solo queue champion. He has good early game zoning potential and is a safe-ish farmer with good outplay potential and decent mobility + scales with cooldown reduction incredibly well which mages generally build and you'll get blue buff which significantly helps you and your damage potential. Compared to other mages at least.

Azir's damage skyrockets once he's got his boots + two ability power items completed. But the problems with Azir and solo queue are these.

Azir has:
+ Waveclear
+ Poke
+ Burst
+ DPS
+ AOE Dmg

Azir doesn't have:
- Easy to land skillshots.
- Unreliable.

Seriously, in solo queue, having skillshot based abilities which are so easy to mess up (the w e q flash r ignite aa combo which will win or lose you a game). Champions that snowball and have a strong early game and scream consistency (think of why cinderhulk junglers are so strong, they're easy to play AND rarely fail to do their job) which is important in solo queue.

If you master Azir though, you can probably carry games, but I think it'd be worth playing a champion with a bit less utility but more carry potential when behind ( Lulu imo is a decent choice).

If Azir gets buffed though... Start maining him and enjoy your free LP

Very mechanical champion, but hard to master. I main Azir and he is practically the only champion I will play in the mid lane; I even play him in the jungle. It's just a factor of knowing when to engage and disengage, because wasting your full combo puts you out of position and vulnerable to jungle ganks. But that's just the basics.
