eh, Facebook does stupid **** constantly. I only continue to have Facebook because there are people I can only keep in contact with through it because they don't use a lot of other things.

Updates aren't mandatory if you use Windows 10 Pro, which you can get for free as a student.

Wrong.
I believe updates can be postponed for longer with Pro, but not ignored.
Enterprise is the only version that can completely ignore updates.
So once again pirates get the best experience while normal users get shafted. Yay.
An article with no proof such a thing doesn't exist in w10 is not proof it does exist.

OF COURSE NOT. That very line of reasoning is at the center of reasoning for many religious people. I, if anybody, would realize the stupidity of such reasoning.
It honestly seems like you're assuming that I'm stupid. Kindly stop that ****.

Fact: There is a program that CAN log all your keystrokes.
Fact: I've seen no concrete proof of WHAT it logs.
Speculation: Some speculate that it logs keys on the virtual keyboard, which makes it less of a privacy issue on PCs and more of an issue on tablets.
Fact: Having a program that CAN log keystokes built into the OS COULD cause security issues.
I meant that people going on about it like Cortana is watching (which I've seen on other places where people are discussing this) is kinda tin hat-ish.

Cortana IS watching. Which by default makes it not tinfoilhat-ish.
It's in the TOS, making it legal of course. But that doesn't make it reasonable, because almost nobody reads those terms.
Getting a 40-page document to accept when you install your OS and then having Cortana on by default is really quite ****ty.
I think what Google does with Google Now is far more reasonable.
It's off by default and the first time you access it you enter a setup where it tells you what it is, what data it collects along with a specific TOS agreement that you need to accept in order to use it. You're informed of what it does before it is activated. That's a huge deal.
What exactly justifies calling this a "conspiracy theory"? It's in Microsoft's right to take everything you have if it's in the EULA. Or, if they can get away with it, why wouldn't they do it?

So yeah, I don't think that expecting Microsoft to use their rights is tinfoilish at all.

Exactly.
It's blatantly false to call this a conspiracy theory.
who said that this would be bad just for nefarious practice? It's not like Microsoft is a government agency, they don't give a **** about your potential nefarious practice. Whether you store pictures of your friends and family on your computer, write valuable research documents or work for a discreet instance like some governmental instances or, I don't know, a dollar bill printing company, you don't want Microsoft, or anyone else, to have the right to access to your data.

Exactly. Great point.

You're misinterpreting my point.

Fact: It contains a program that can log keystrokes and Cortana collects information about the user
Conspiracy Theory sounding nonsense that some people are harping on about: THEY'RE WATCHING MY EVERY MOVE AND LOGGING MY EVERY KEYSTROKE

I'm not saying you're doing this and I didn't mean to even imply you were stupid or anything like. I said there are people acting like that about this after not bothering to read any of the information they were given when they chose to upgrade and I happen to find those people annoying. The fact that 90% of the people who already upgraded or who will upgrade blindly won't read the terms means nothing. They're choosing to do that.

You were writing like these people were in the thread.

My first comment was kinda like that, because the first few things I read really did make me feel that way about it. After my first comment I mentioned other people (not necessarily those exact words) and even avoided referring to a hypothetical person as "you" to make sure it wouldn't seem as though it was directed as anyone specific.

Perhaps "paranoid-sounding theory" (speculation about what they might be doing with certain things is a "theory") might have better way to say what I meant, but that doesn't have as nice of a ring to it, nor would it have particularly showed my disdain at such an attitude.

I too trust retailers with my financial information but not Microsoft with the details of my term paper.
