That wasn't her only change, the biggest one was that her level 1 Q now refunds its full mana cost, which you used to need to max it for, while her E's mana cost goes down every time you level it up, meaning E max, the spell tank Akali wants to max, is now strong, meaning she gets stronger much sooner now.

I said it was strong post the change that basically doubled it's range. At this point, it was even stronger than now, considering the mastery that reduced its cooldown. It also had higher health regen.
The thing about the Q is tho, it deals no damage unless you put points into it. The base damage at level 1 is garbage.
