Why does Lucians Piercing Light act like a point-click

I just don't understand why Lucian's q can't just work like Ezreal's q or other skillshots, it's really annoying when i'm trying to harrass my enemy and instead of using my q, i walk forward because i'm so used to using skillshots that i put my mouse over the ground behind them instead of actually on them. I was just wondering if there was an actual plausible reason riot would do this?

Because it makes it higher skillcap, and is easy enough as it is. If were a regular skillshot he would be way too easy to play and require nerfs (which he will soon probably get as it is).

Because diversity is good for the game. If every mechanic worked the same, there wouldn't be much difference between champions. Honestly, Riot tends to err on the homogeneous side compared to other MOBAs, so it's good that they include small differences like this.

has more potential than something like because it can pass through units and even hit targets outside of the cast range if you line up your targets well. The drawback is that you can't cast it freely in any direction, making the effective range shorter when you're not shooting your target through minions. These strengths and weaknesses are what set Piercing Light apart from other abilities and make it unique.
