Sup Spike. There's a mistake in Gank and Tank build's notes, saying that we should take Visage instead of BotRK, but there's apparently no BotRK in this build.

Hi, Spike! It is me again. I was wondering: What do you think about the new Sanguine Blade on Shyvana? I seriously thought about it and used it as a third item, after Titanic Hydra and jg item and found it really good, specially for counter-jungling. What are your thoughts about it?? :D

Informative guide, thanks. It covers just about anything a new Shvana player needs to know

how come you start w? I went in practice tool and found that e does more damage. Is this outdated? because Im pretty sure I read that you went w because celerity gave you more damage, so im guessing that this was before celerity was nerfed. Also do you have an op.gg I can follow?

Hello, Spyke. I am your stalker a fan of your work and I've been playing a lot with Shyvana. Acording to you we could take drake already at level 4, though it was risky because we would be really low and could die should the enemy come. However, I tried jg after those changes in the jungle at patch 9.23 and I was astonished at how fast Shyvana was growing. Before I would need to take red-blue-gromp and 2 mini wolves to get lvl 3, now I don't even need the wolves and, to make thing more interesting, just farming I managed to be 2 levels ahead of an enemy Rengar. To make it even better, taking the first drake, an infernal drake that was supposed to be the hardest to take, was astonishingly easy and fast at lvl 5. I wonder if it would be that easy lvl 4, but given at how fast Shyvana evolved just by farming (and taking the enemy chickens), is way easy to take 5 before going drake.

Now with those changes in the jungle, don't you think that was somewhat an indirectly great buff for a champion that take Dragons with ease such as Shyvana?

Hello :) Yes, I think the pre-Season 10 changes mean that Shyvana is 'back'! The main thing is the changes to jungle XP and camp spawning timers, so that being a good jungle farmer is now actually rewarded. Taking enemy chickens is a good strategy, someone like Rengar is always going to leave those at levels 1-2 because he takes them so slow.

Either level 4 or level 5 for first drake seems good to me, Shyvana can do it at either level if she went back already (for example, Hunter's Talisman + Hunter's Machete + Dagger should do it fast and safe). The exact timing of going there in a game is obviously going to depend on your vision, your knowledge of where the enemy jungler is, and whether your bot lane has lane priority. So I should say in the guide that Shyvana is "looking" to take first drake any time from level 4 onwards.

I have aimed to update the guide for Pre-Season 10 fully when the pre-season started on 20 November but there's probably parts that are still out-of-date, if you spot anything specific please do let me know. I also plan to update some of the videos shown, but need to find good current examples of Shyvana play - if anyone wants to suggest a good Shyvana video in comments, please do!

I also think that you are right. They lowered hp of the dragons and the game is more based on dragons. This is indirectly a shyvana buff. The only con is cloud drake is useless.

yeah, only good for her passive, though the cloud drake dragon soul do help on move speed and increase her DPS after ult for a while.

Not gonna lie, this is the longest guide I ever read. However, this has basically everything a shyvanna player could ask for. I think we will see more of her in season 10 due to the massive dragon changes. AP nuke shyvanna is going to be nuts when those changes hit the live servers.

not gonna lie but people prefer to play shyvana as an AP jungler now instead of AD but i've seen her hybrid

Yes AP Shyvana is a lot of fun.

did shyvana strong at late game ? , and what should i do with her ?

SpikeThePike (16) | September 14, 2019 10:12am
Late game Shyvana wants to tank up, you can even sell items and switch to a full tank build.

Ok so with the scuttle crab rework I cannot seem to have a healthy farm. I used to use scuttle to heal back up but since it spawns later im not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

SpikeThePike (16) | September 14, 2019 10:10am
Shyvana shouldn't need to heal up if you keep in motion around the jungle camps - kite them slightly, let the Krugs block each other a bit, and you should take less damage.

You can also back early - as soon as you have 350 gold - get a Hunter's Talisman and then you can stay healthy in the jungle for a long time.

Hi, I saw the update you did in the discussion and I'd like to know if you will update the guide for the shyvana's rework on patch 6.23 or 6.24.

SpikeThePike (16) | November 13, 2016 7:01am
For sure, I will be updating the guide to cover the rework :)

Rework ideas currently being tested on the PBE - note that this may not end up in exactly this form in the normal game, the final stats may be different:

  • New Passive giving Shyvana some personal Dragon buffs for each Dragon she (or her team) takes:- Infernal Drake 5-10% of Shyvana's damage is true damage Ocean Drake 5% CDR per dragon Mountain Drake 10-20% damage reduction from towers and large monsters Cloud Drake 5% slow resistance per dragon. All sounds great in theory but in fact these are weak. Remember that in mid game you are going to have at most maybe two of these bonuses so think of them as 5% bonuses. The Infernal Drake bonus will be hardly noticeable except against tanky targets, likewise 5% slow resistance will be hardly noticeable. Even so, enemy teams are going to be expecting Shyvana to be taking Dragons earlier and aggressively contesting Dragons.
  • Removal of the old Dragonborn 5-10-15-20 bonus armor and MR. This is a severe nerf - I will probably therefore take one or two flat armor quintessences in future to make up for this.
  • W will have a larger circle size in dragon form, but it will no longer be leaving the Scorched Earth trail behind Shyvana in dragon form, that Scorched Earth effect is now moved to E - this is a nerf, the old W in dragon form basically did double damage, so this change is halving the damage from W in dragon form
  • E in human form is hardly changed, the only difference is it now cannot pass through a champion to hit a second target behind that champion (though it can still pass through minions and monsters) - you probably won't even notice this change. The AP scaling on E has been reduced, so AP Shyvana builds (which I always thought were dumb) are now even less viable. Overall this is a small nerf.
  • In Dragon form, E is no longer in a cone, it is now a linear skillshot as in human form, but more powerful, exploding when it hits a target for extra damage (60-200, scaling automatically with your champion level) and creating a 4 second Scorched Earth effect in a circle where it hits (very similar to Morgana's W). This is a buff.
  • R flight can no longer be interrupted - yay, I have been asking for this for ages! This is an important buff and out of all these changes should be the one that restores Shyvana to popularity at high elo play.
  • Slightly nerfed damage from hitting champions with R - this is a nerf
  • In dragon form, Shyvana will have 150-350 increased health depending on level - this somewhat makes up for no longer having the armor and MR increase from the Dragonborn passive. Shyvana will also have increased size in dragon form at level 11 / 16 - so much easier for enemies to hit with their skillshots.

Overall the change to E, and the uninterruptible flight when she uses her ultimate, will be the most important changes. In Season 7, Shyvana will not be as tanky naturally and it's therefore going to be more important to take tanky items for her in Season 7. AP builds will be even less viable than they are currently...

My opinion: overall these are nerfs, in a team fight Shyvana is going to be more reliant on hitting her E skillshot. Moving the Scorched Earth effect from W to E is a stupid and unnecessary move and weakens Shyvana, we don't need another Morgana effect - Shyvana needs to do damage at close quarters not at range. The increased size is fun, but Shyvana needs more tanky stats to stay safe when she is so easy to hit. The one good thing about these changes is that R has become uninterruptible - as it always should have been! These changes limit the way Shyvana can build, she is going to have to build more tanky than previously, which is a shame when she had excellent offence and versatility in Season 6.
