I also think that spellbinder instead of Void Staff wouldnt be to bad, im new to midlaning so i dont really know whats good and whats not, but i do think that it would be stacked up quite fast. (please correct me if im wrong!)
You also get access to perfect timing , and going sorcery manaband celeraty / gathering storm
If I have a hard matchup, i.e. Jayce, then I will take Unsealed Spellbook because he will have lane priority over me at almost all points of the game.
It is personal preference, I choose to take Phase Rush for the movement speed/slow resistance so I can outplay by dodging skill shots and have insane kiting. Over time, I have learned to adjust my Ryze gameplay against hard matchups, so I don't need Unsealed Spellbook to beat Jayce in-lane.
As for Perfect Timing and Gathering Storm, I play Ryze aggressively and win my games pre-30 minute so the cost-benefit analysis does not make it worth for me to take Perfect Timing and Gathering Storm.
As for Manaflow Band & Celerity, I do take those lol.
At the end of the day, I strongly believe that both Phase Rush and Unsealed Spellbook are both great & viable options for Ryze. It comes down to personal preference and playstyle.
Do you like to safe aggresive and try to take over the game, I believe that Phase Rush is good for that.
Do you like to play a bit safer and more on the defensive side? Then Unsealed Spellbook is great for that style of gameplay.
Starting game ? HEAl/EXHAUST/BARRIER/IGNITE.
Need to go back to lane? TP.
Need to not get insta stunned? CLEANSE.
Need to run fast? GHOST.
But I can see your point, sometimes the SS change and lower cooldown may just not give you the edge you need since SpeelBook is more of a "passive keystone"
Also have you considered water walking for faster roams ?
What I love about the new Rune system is that there are so many different variations of Runes that you can take to adjust to your own play style. I am going to make an adjustment to the guide and adding on the Unsealed Spellbook route.
As for Waterwalking, yes I have tried it and it wasn't bad. Do I think it is the most optimal choice when you can choose Scorch and Gathering Storm, I don't think so.
One thing I have been really liking is Time Warp Tonic. I've seen a lot of challenger Anivia & Twisted Fate players take it if they plan to scrapping a lot in lane and the bonus potion effects along with the movement speed felt really good.
I went back and added Transcendence to the "Items" section of the guide. I appreciate the feedback and thanks for contributing towards the guide.
Thanks for reading the guide!
