My first ever blog hope you enjoy!

Admittedly, I did not like League of legends at all when I first heard about it. My friend who is an exceptional player has played since it was first released and has spent a lot of time playing that game and from time to time would try to convince me to try it out. He showed me what the main objective of the game was and what you had to do with champions, minions, items etc.

My first reaction was how the hell can you enjoy grinding up to level 18 and then starting the next game all the way from level 1. This to me sounded crazy as I was used to games like skyrim where you keep your progress. Another thing was that it was a MOBA and the top down camera view was something I never played with before as again I was used to 3D first/third person views.

Eventually, I decided to make an account and try it out. Garen was one of the few champions I could really select and the amount of champions in the game for a complete beginner was already intimidating as having this many variants in playstyles meant that it could take years worth of grinding to understand what I was supposed to be doing. It takes even longer to understand how to play out different scenarios and against matchups as well. Theat is a lot of information to take in overall. However, once you start playing as well as getting guidance from someone who has spent years playing the game it is like a shortcut to success and that player from experience tells you the things you need to know instead of wasting time looking for information that may or may not be relevant.

So once I actually started playing the game I was absolutely horrible. I was getting destroyed by intermediate bots. I remember being 0-20 as garen against bots and wondered if I should continue playing this game if I am this bad at it. However, as time went on I quickly started to grasp the basics more and more I became much better. But still I did not enjoy the game so I ended up playing this game on and off for a year and half until one day I just felt the urge to play it mainly because I had friends who also played it.

Which brings me to today. After 3 years of playing LOL and even going as far as studying certain item builds and rune setups made me realise something. I really enjoyed making my own builds that I would test out to see if they are better and more efficient than others. See what worked and what didn't was my new hobby. I enjoyed the game more than ever and even spent money on it. However, as much as I like the game for what it is, I still have many problems with it and certain champions that seem really unfair and after many games of frustration, I noticed a pattern. Champions like tryndamere who I enjoyed playing and wanted to pick up as my new main fell off hard lately in season 8. Maybe I wasn't a very good tryndamere player but I noticed that other top lane champions regardless of skill had a much better laning phase despite tryndamere having early crit chance and the highest lvl 1 hp in the game he still struggled in most matchups.

This also raises a question I would like to discuss which is whether the ranking system actually reflects your skill. Sure you could spend years studying the game mechanically, practicing combos and perfecting your CSing skills but how far can all of that take you in a team-game.

Personally I feel like I am hardstuck in Silver 4 and mainly play top lane champions and occasionally go for Janna or Soraka support, Warwick Jungle and Twitch or Jhin adc for a change. Should I invest more time in learning and playing more champions and different roles like mid lane for example or stick to playing top lane which I would consider being my strongest role.

So after 3 years of LoL I have learned that even if you become a very good player you can still get stuck in lower ranks if you solo most of your games or even if you duo with a friend you are not guaranteed to win or even lose for that matter as random teammates will often prove it difficult to win games. Sometimes it just isn't your fault as you can even be up against smurfs who don't even have to keep their monitor turned on to win the game and all you can really do against that is play your best and hope to learn what mistakes you make as a player and learn how the enemy took advantage of those mistakes whether its warding or getting greedy and falling for a bait.

I hope to climb out of Silver one day and prove to myself as well as others who are not naturally gifted and talented that putting in time and effort into a game or a hobby will help you get closer to reaching your goals if you set any.

Anyway that has been my LoL journey so far hope you enjoyed my blog it has been written so I could motivate as well as convince myself to start setting goals and to see what I enjoy doing with my life as right now I am very unsure of what to do and it would be good for me to gain some perspective. Thank you so much if you have read this all the way through!
